What is the +1 Gmail trick? ›

The Gmail + trick uses what's called “plus addressing” to quickly create unique email addresses that can receive mail in an existing email account. All you have to do is add a "+" symbol and any word or combination of characters after your username and before the "@" symbol.

Change your default reply settings

On your computer, go to Gmail. See all settings. Click the General tab. In the "Default reply behavior" section, click Reply or Reply all.

During the Account Recovery process, we'll ask you a series of security questions that will be personalized to you, based on your account's level of security and the recovery options that you previously set up. Don't worry if you can't remember exactly, just answer these questions as best as you can.

To get started, head to g.co/recover and enter your Gmail address. If possible, try the following to make recovery easier: Use a computer, phone, or tablet you've previously used to sign into your account. Use the same browser that you usually do, like Chrome or Safari.

You can access the Account Recovery form from the password-assistance page by selecting "I don't know my password," entering your username, and clicking the link to verify your identity on the following page.

Click 'Settings' (gear icon) on the top-right corner of the screen and hit the 'See all settings' button to expand the full page. Under the section where it says 'Default reply behavior', select the 'Reply all' option. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit 'Save Changes' to finish enabling the feature.

How do I change my Gmail settings back to normal? ›

Is there a recipient (for instance, your email address) in the "To" field of the email or are all the recipients in the "Bcc" field? For some reason, where there's no recipient, the "Reply" icon gets greyed out. You should be able to reply using the "Forward" icon - it's a messy way but might work.

On your computer, go to Gmail. Open the message. Below the message, click Reply or Reply all.

If you add “+1” (or any numbers/letters) to the end of your Gmail handle, Gmail recognizes it as belonging to your email address but it looks like a unique email address to the site for which you are registering an account.

If someone accidentally adds dots to your address when emailing you, you'll still get that email. For example, if your email is johnsmith@gmail.com, you own all dotted versions of your address: john.smith@gmail.com.
